February 2011

Wow, it’s been more than a year since my last post on this blog page. Fortunately, the blog provider doesn’t block my account here :d. Thank you WordPress…, I owe you a year writing nothing here.

It’s February, the ‘full of love month’ in every year when some people say a lot of sweet words to their mate. Dunno exactly if it’s been celebrated for decades or hundreds year, but 14th February means a lot to some people. Anyway, I found many version of history about 14th February.

One, according to chronicle the ancient Athenian calendar, the period between mid-January to mid February is the month “Gamelion”, which is dedicated to the sacred marriage god Zeus and Hera. You must know Zeus, ha? For your information, He’s Hercules’s father, a man with ten human of power :d (I liked to watch the movie series when I was kid). In ancient Rome, February 15 is the feast of Lupercalia, a celebration of Lupercus, the god of fertility, symbolized half-naked and dressed in goat skins. As a ritual of purification, the priests of Lupercus presented goats to the God then they would run around the streets in Rome. Some people say this is one of the beginning of Valentine’s Day.

Two, in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer, he wrote:

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.

This poem was written to honor the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia. But, the reader have uncritically assumed that Chaucer was referring to February 14 as Valentine’s Day. Simply, this misunderstanding became another history of Val’s Day.

Three, actually I’d like to write down the other version about Valentine’s Day, but seems like better to put down the word ‘valentine’ on G o o g l e search box and read them carefully :d.

Anyway, whoever you are, however you address the meaning of Valentine’s Day, and whatever you do on 14th February, just love your mate with the unconditional love. A love that never ask anything back of everything you gave. It will be a very beautiful day for you guys who celebrate, and it will still be a very beautiful day for you who won’t celebrate that day because I believe everyone has their own ‘pink’ room in their heart.

Finally, please remember to love your mate, always…:)
